President, Thompson Thrift Development

As president of Thompson Thrift Development, Paul oversees the development of the company’s asset portfolio and new market opportunities. During his tenure as its president, Paul has successfully guided the company through the competitive real estate marketplace while expanding the company’s portfolio to include multifamily, institutional, industrial and commercial developments across the United States. Paul is involved in his community and serves on the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce Board’s Executive Committee, the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce Board, Indiana State University Scott College of Business Dean’s Executive Committee and is currently a member of the Terre Haute Tomorrow Steering Committee. He is past chair of the Terre Haute Economic Development Corporation, the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce Board and the Wabash Valley Red Cross. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Indiana State University.

John Thompson

President, Thompson Thrift Construction

As president of Thompson Thrift Construction, John is responsible for the overall direction of the company, including preconstruction, construction services, and field operations. Under John’s leadership the company has been transformed into one of the country’s premier general contractors, building up an extensive portfolio of multifamily, institutional, commercial, retail, restaurant and industrial projects. John is a member of the National Association of Homebuilders Leadership Board and the Indiana Association for Community Economic Development. His professional affiliations also include the American Concrete Association and the Associated Builders and Contractors Association. He is an active member of the community and has served as the board president of the Terre Haute Children’s Museum and a board member of the Boy Scouts of America. He holds a bachelor’s degree in construction management from Indiana State University.

Managing Partner

As Managing Partner of Watermark Residential, Josh oversees all facets of the company including site selection, entitlements, contract negotiations, strategic planning, financing and management. Since joining Watermark in 2008, Josh has been integral in all aspects of the company’s growth which has included over 20 developments spread across eight states throughout the country totaling over $460,000,000 in value. Josh has specialized in developing multifamily communities with a minimum size of 200 units during his career. Josh began his multifamily development career in 2003 overseeing 29 developments with a value totaling over $720,000,000.

Cindy Gordon
Cindy Gordon
Sr. Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

As senior vice president and chief financial officer, Cindy Gordon oversees all financial aspects of Thompson Thrift Development and Watermark Residential. She is responsible for all accounting, financial reporting, investment and treasury management matters for the companies and the portfolio of properties including budget development, management reporting, financial controls and analysis. Cindy joined the company in 1998 and has more than 25 years of experience in the accounting field. She holds a bachelor's degree from Murray State University and a master's in business administration from Indiana State University and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Vice President of Acquisitions

As Vice President of Acquisitions, Brian is responsible for business development, site selection and the financial underwriting of new development sites throughout the country. Brian joined Watermark Residential as a senior financial analyst in 2011. Prior to that, he worked as a Senior Associate for Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services from 2001-2011. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Hanover College in 2001. Brian is a licensed Indiana Real Estate Broker and member of the National Multi-Housing Council.

Greg Buckhout

Vice President of Capital Services

Greg brings extensive experience in commercial real estate lending to his position at Thompson Thrift. As Vice President, Capital Services, he is responsible for the procurement and management of debt financing and joint venture relationships for commercial real estate properties throughout the United States. Before joining Thompson Thrift, Greg served in a similar role at Lauth Property Group and spent more than 15 years working in commercial real estate for large regional financial institutions, including First Financial Bank in Indianapolis, Regions Bank, U.S. Bank, First Union (Wells Fargo), and Fleet Bank (Bank of America). He received a B.S. degree in accounting from the State University of New York at Fredonia in 1992.

Aimee OConnor
Aimee OConnor
Vice President of Property Management

Aimee is responsible for driving the strategic plan by ensuring the highest standard of excellence within the Watermark brand for all newly developed assets; the effective and successful management of the company’s portfolio of residential properties, including setting the strategic direction of the property management division; and proactively leading the team to achieve established goals. She is experienced in all aspects of property management, mentoring, training and new business development. Aimee earned her Certified Property Manager (CPM) in 2011, Certified Property Supervisor (CAPS) in 2007 and Community Apartment Manager (CAM) in 2006. In 2008, she also earned her Master’s in Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan. Aimee was awarded Regional Manager of the Year in 2013, Property Manager of the Year in 2011 with IAA and CPM Candidate of the Year in 2011 with IREM. Aimee has been active in the Indiana Apartment Association, the National Apartment Association and the local and national chapters of the Institute of Real Estate Management.

Steve Shaver

Vice President of Construction

As the Vice President of Construction, Steve assists the Watermark Development team in design and oversees the construction administration for all projects. He is responsible for managing the Watermark CA Team to mitigate financial exposure and insure quality projects. Prior to joining Watermark Residential, Steve was a project manager with Buckingham Construction in Indianapolis from 2005-2012. He also worked as a construction manager with M/I Schottenstein Homes from 2002-2005. Steve earned a Bachelor of Science degree in building construction management from Purdue University in 2001. He is also a member of the National Association of Home Builders, Urban Land Institute, Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis and the Purdue Alumni Association.

Sr. Vice President, General Counsel

As Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Thompson Thrift, Brian is responsible for management of the company’s Law Department and providing legal services for all aspects of a project’s development. In addition, he provides advice to the company on corporate and transaction structure, as well as serving to provide necessary corporate compliance measures for the company. Before joining Thompson Thrift, Brian was an attorney at the firm Krieg DeVault in Indianapolis, IN; General Counsel for Carmel, Indiana’s Lauth Property Group; and Associate General Counsel for Bridgestone Americas, Inc., where he managed the domestic and international legal function for its subsidiaries Firestone Building Products and Firestone Industrial Products. Brian holds undergraduate degrees from Purdue University and a J.D. from Indiana University. He was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1999, and has over seventeen years’ experience focused on the real estate and construction industries. He has and continues to serve on various civic local boards in Zionsville, IN.

Vice President of Marketing

Sara oversees all facets of Thompson Thrift’s marketing program, including public relations, communications, publications, website development, advertising and photography. She joined Thompson Thrift in 2010. Prior to that, she was the director of distance and graduate admission at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College where she was responsible for all marketing and admission activities to achieve recruitment goals. She held the position of associate director of distance and graduate admission at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College from 2003-2008. She also was the northern region marketing/public relations coordinator for Old National Bank in Terre Haute, Ind., from 2002-2003; marketing coordinator for Visual Systems, Inc., in Milwaukee, Wis.; and events marketing specialist with the Bradley Corporation, also in Milwaukee. She received a bachelor of science degree in marketing from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in 1999.
